The most versatile, widely used ingredient and breakfast item of choice is an egg. I LOVE eggs. I especially love eggs with Sriracha. My idea of a perfect, leisurely Saturday morning breakfast includes: and un-ending supply of strong coffee, buttered wheat toast, crispy bacon, sliced avocado and most certainly, perfectly scrambled eggs with Sriracha.
The other day I had breakfast at First Watch Daytime Cafe at Summit Mall for the first.....and last time. That may be premature actually. I might give them one more chance. I ordered the Acapulco Express Omelet with wheat toast and bacon and the dish came with hash browns. First and foremost, the coffee was horrendous. Even the International Delight single serving creamers couldn't help it's watery patheticness. As I sipped it I kept thinking, "man, if I was hungover this coffee would make me vomit." Thank goodness I was not. The omelet was decent but slightly disappointing, the chef clearly hadn't perfected the art of omelet making which was evidenced by the brown, crusty bottom of my omelet. The filling was delish (chorizo, avocado, melted cheese, green chili's and onions) and to my pleasure, evenly disbursed. The toast was served dry, one of my greatest pet-peeves (everyone knows that you must butter toast immediately after it pops up from the toaster) and the hash browns were dry, unseasoned and extremely disappointing. How hard is it to mess up a potato? All in all I left the restaurant wishing I would have gone to Bob Evans for Eggs Benedict but on my way out the door I saw a stack of blueberry pancakes that might get me back in there someday.
Hi Akron Foodie:
ReplyDeleteLoved the blog. The part about if you were hung over the coffee would have made you vomit actually made me laugh out loud. I recently visited Melt (not sure if it is Melt or Melts) in Cleveland because
they were featured on Diners Drive Ins and Dives. Future idea for you: I would love to see you write a review of all the local places featured on the Food Network.
Love ya,
Auntie D.
We went to Melt Bar and Grilled recently too because of the feature on Diners Drive Ins and Dives! Actually, that is going to be included in one of my blogs as soon as I have time to write it! I love your idea.....and have religiously been DVRing The Best Thing I Ever Ate on the Food Network just to be able to visit all of the local places. The only reason I havent been to all of them yet is because I'm a broke college student! ;) lol But, my next goal is to visit Greenhouse Tavern for those duck fat fries w/ gravy....they sound absolutely sinful!
ReplyDeleteIf you want to try another AMAZING restaurant in Cleveland (Lakewood) that will also be featured on my blog go to Borderline Cafe. ALL of their food is TO DIE FOR. I ate many a hungover meals in that place and none of them made me vomit. ;)
Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it! Keep on reading.....
Love ya!
Chelsea
Your aunt read my mind Chels! Now working close to Cleveland, I will have to try this place. I am unsure if it's still around, but Tommy's on Coventry in Cleveland Hts had some of the best omlettes I've ever had. That was my first experience with falafel in an egg --- totally delectable!
ReplyDeleteI was hungover and although the coffee didn't make me vomit, the pastel cookie cutter ambiance did. Our server (which I noticed were all female) couldn't buy a clue, even if I gave her twenty dollars and sent her to the "clue shop". What cracked me up the most was the seventeen little cubes of potato they called "hash browns" My car will have to be broken down right in front for me to even consider going back there. And using the word "Chef" to describe whom ever is slopping those plates together should be seriously reconsidered.
